AFTERNOON UPDATE — High schools ready for playoff games

BLUEFIELD — Friday marks the beginning of the second week of high school football playoff action in both West Virginia and Virginia and four area teams are still in the running for state titles.

In West Virginia Class AA, No. 6 Bluefield (9-2) travels to visit No. 3 Sherman (11-0) while the lone road team to win last week, the No. 12 PikeView Panthers (8-3), make a five-hour journey to the northeast corner of the state to take on 10-1 No. 4 Frankfort.

In Virginia Group AA Division 3 Region IV, Graham (5-6) travels to the Roanoke valley to take on River Ridge powers 8-2 Cave Spring and Southwest District champions Richlands (9-1) host their playoff opener against 8-3 Marion.
