BASEBALL

TAZEWELL, Va. — The Second Chance Learning Center will sponsor the 2009 Wagner Challenge Baseball Camp on Saturday, Nov. 14, at Tazewell Middle School. The camp will directed by Tazewell native and Major League relief pitcher Billy Wagner. Junior players, ages 8-12, will participate from 8:30 a.m.-noon, followed by the varsity, ages 13-17, from 1-4:30 p.m. The camp cost is $60. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. for each respective session. The camp is limited to 50 students per age group. BASKETBALL

HUNTINGTON — Marshall basketball’s annual Thundering Herd Madness is set for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22 at the Cam Henderson Center. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with ticket prices set at $5. Both the men’s and women’s teams will be introduced, and followed by scrimmages, 3-point and slam dunk competitions and an autograph session for the fans. BLUEFIELD, Va. — Bluefield College will host a Basketball Blast-off for the men’s and women’s basketball teams on Friday, Oct. 23 at the 7 p.m. at the Dome Gymnasium. The event will feature player introductions, intra-squad scrimmages, slam dunk contest, shooting contest and other interactive games for fans. Admission is free. PRINCETON — The Princeton Parks and Recreation Department is now having signups for boys basketball, ages 9-12, grades third-sixth. Fee is $30 until Oct. 21; from Oct. 21-31, fee is $35.

BLUEFIELD, Va. — The Bluefield Virginia Youth Basketball League is currently taking registration forms for the 2009-10 season. The fee is $25 per child. If more than one child, it is $15 for the second child, and $10 for any additional entrants. There are six age divisions, including junior pee wee (5-7), senior pee wee (8-9), midget boys (10-12), midget girls (10-12), senior girls (13-17) and senior boys (13-17). Registration deadline is Oct. 30. No late signups will be accepted after the Nov. 7 draft. HILLSVILLE, Va. — The Carroll County High School basketball program will host a 5-on-5 benefit basketball tournament for ages 18-and-older on Nov. 7-8 at the CCHS gymnasium. PRINCETON — NEW You, a clinically managed weight loss program for children between ages 11 and 14, will begin a new session on Nov. 3 at Princeton Health & Fitness Center. The program runs for four weeks, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-5 p.m. Its goal is to help children improve their food choices, increase physical activity and reduce TV and video-game screen time. The card will feature current Spike TV and TNA Wrestling star Shark Boy. Others scheduled including Stan “The Man” Lee, Iron Cross, Frank “the Tank” Parker, Eddie 24 Kt. Golden, K.C. Thunder, Mac Cooper with the Dallas Doll and Mini Cena. the midget world heavyweight champion. The Twin Valley basketball and football coaches will be participating in a special LumberJack Match. Admission is $10 ringside, $8 for adults, and $5 for children (5-12). Proceeds for the event will benefit the Twin Valley basketball program.
