Preservati’s hat trick leads Princeton; prep roundup

ST. ALBANS — Hannah Preservati kicked her way to a hat trick, leading Princeton a 3-1 girls soccer win over St. Albans on Tuesday night.

Jessica Inman had two assists on corner kicks, while Carly Powell added one. Ashley Peyton had six saves for the Tigers.

Princeton (10-7) will host Riverside today at 6 p.m.



Beavers defeat Grizzlies

EAST RIVER — Lindsey Whitt and Stacey Rodgers scored goals as Bluefield beat Nicholas County 2-0 Tuesday at Field 1 of the East River Soccer Complex. Allison Shaw added an assist for the Beavers.

Ebony Allison made two saves in goal for Bluefield.

Bluefield (11-6-2) travels to Beckley to face Huntington St. Joseph’s on Thursday before beginning sectionals on Monday at the East River Soccer Complex.



Prep Volleyball

MEADOW BRIDGE — Leandra Sexton collected seven aces, and Morgan Hobbs and Ariel Harry added five aces apiece to lead Mercer Christian to a marathon 27-29, 26-24, 25-22 win at Meadow Bridge on Tuesday.

Amber Koppler and Danielle Preservati had three kills apiece for the Cavaliers.

Mercer Christian (14-6) also won the nightcap, defeating Pocahontas County 25-22, 25-18. Lauren Easter had four aces, while Harry added three. Sexton collected three kills.

•Mercer Christian Academy defeated both Princeton Senior High and PikeView High in a tri-match on Monday night at the PSHS gym.

Princeton’s senior libero Mary Campbell had 48 digs during the evening. “The past few games, she’s really lit it up,” said Princeton coach Leslie Whitt.

To begin the evening, Mercer Christian topped Princeton in three games, 19-25, 26-24, 25-13. PikeView defeated the Tigers 22-25, 25-22, 25-19. The MCA Lady Cavaliers then beat PikeView in two games.

The Cavaliers were led against Princeton by Koppler, who had seven kills and three aces against the Tigers, while Sexton added seven aces. Hobbs added five kills and five blocks.

In MCA’s win over PikeView, Koppler had three aces, Preservati added four kills, and Leslie Easter had the game-winning kill from the back row.

For Princeton, Kendria Perkins had 18 kills and Chelsy Walker had 24 kills for the night. Jennifer Pruett had 19 assists and Haley Conner provided 22 assists.

The Cavaliers will host Fayetteville on Monday.



College Volleyball

ATHENS — Amber Miller had with 13 kills and 16 digs, but Concord dropped its eighth straight decision in a 25-19, 25-21, 26-24 loss to Charleston on Tuesday night.

Helen Thiesen handed out 24 assists for Concord, while Meredith Shifley contributed 15 assists and nine digs. Senior libero Kelly Newberry anchored the back line with 16 digs.

Concord (9-14, 2-5) will host Bluefield College next Monday at 7 p.m.



College Golf

MOUNDSVILLE — Concord University’s women’s golf team finished third in the WVIAC Northern Regional that was completed on Tuesday at Moundsville Country Club.

Vivian Garciaferro finished fourth with a two-day total of 164, trailing West Liberty’s Haygen Mowder’s tourney winning 159.

The Hilltoppers won the event with a 672, followed by Ohio Valley (676) and the Lions.

Concord’s Sofia Svensson (167) finished in a tie for seventh, while Shelby Myers (177) was 154th. Clarissa Wells (180) was 19th for Concord.



Middle School Football

PRINCETON — There have been a pair of schedule changes for the undefeated Princeton Middle School football team.

The Tigers (5-0) will host Eastern Greenbrier on Thursday at 7 p.m., followed by a Monday, Oct. 19, for a 6:30 p.m. contest at Gate City, which is also unbeaten on the season.

•BLUEFIELD—Bluefield Middle School has also made a change in its junior varsity football schedule.

The Bluefield and Oceana seventh grade teams will play Thursday at Mitchell Stadium at 6 p.m. It had originally been slated for Wednesday.
