Shepherd clobbers Concord

Staff reports

SHEPHERDSTOWN — Concord narrowed a 14 point deficit to 14-7 with a first quarter touchdown. That must have made Shepherd mad.

The Rams, the two-time defending WVIAC champions, scored the next 41 points to demolish the Mountain Lions 55-7 on Saturday Ram Stadium.

A 15-yard pass from Thomas Frazier to Chris Carter put Concord on the board with 4:42 left in the first quarter. That would be it for the Lions, which were held to 141 yards on 53 offensive plays.

Shepherd (3-4, 1-4), which found itself in the unfamiliar territory being in the cellar with Concord before the game, collected 497 offensive yards, scoring 21 first quarter points and 17 more in the second to take a 38-7 lead at the break.

Jimmy Sutch led the Rams with 122 yards and three touchdowns on the ground, while quarterback Tyler Lazear threw for 172 yards, including a 43-yard strike to Nasser Muhammad to open the scoring.

Michael Johnson also ran for 80 yards and a score for the Rams, who had 10 players catch at least one pass.

Shepherd’s defense had 10 tackles for loss and three interceptions, including two by Deante Steele, who also had a 91-yard kick return for a touchdown. Louis Corum recorded eight tackles.

Concord (0-7, 0-5), will host Glenville State for homecoming next Saturday at 6 p.m.
