PULASKI, Va. — Angel Chapa threw four scoreless innings and picked up his second win of the season as the Princeton Rays beat the Pulaski Mariners 6-1 Monday night.
Chapa gave up just a pair of hits in his four innings of work. In that time he struck out four and walked one. The win improved his record to 2-1 for the season and the good outing lowered his earned run average to 2.75.
Burt Reynolds punctuated the offensive attack by hitting his third home run of the season, a three-run shot with no outs in the fifth inning. Reynolds’ three RBIs led Princeton Monday night.
But several other P-Rays were making contact. Mayo Acosta went 2-for-4 for Princeton with a double and an RBI. Brian Bryles went 2-for-5 with two runs and Diogenes Luis also went 2-for-5 with a run.
Taylor Lewis took the loss for Pulaski, dropping to 0-3 for the campaign. He was chased after just a single inning of work in which he gave up an earned run on one hit with a walk and a strikeout.
Lewis’ replacement Jose Jimenez did not fare any better. He threw the next four innings and gave up five runs — three earned — on seven hits with two strikeouts and two walks. He also gave up the homer to Reynolds.
Guy Welsh hit his second home run of the season in the sixth inning off of Juan Santana. It was a solo shot that was the highlight of his 2-for-4 night. Mario Martinez also went 2-for-4 for the Mariners.
Princeton (15-21) travels to Johnson City for the first of a three-game series tonight against the Cardinals. The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Howard Johnson Field.
