BASEBALL
BASTIAN, Va. — The Bland County Little League will host its first Goodfield Skills Camp on July 28-31 at the Bland Little League fields. The age groups will be split into 5-to-7-years-old from 4 p.m.-5:30 p.m. and a pair of sessions for 8-12-year-olds from 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.-3:30 p.m. Instructors from Goodfield Baseball will focus on both skills development in the offensive and defensive part of the game. Concessions will be available each day. Among the Goodfield Baseball instructors are Ed Goodson, who played with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and his father, Kirk Goodson, who coached Grayson County to the state baseball title in 1997. GARDNER — The First Annual West Virginia Thunder Invitational Baseball Tournament will be held from August 1-3 at the Gardner baseball complex. Each team is guaranteed three games and there will be awards for the first and second place teams as well as individuals in the two divisions: 10 and under and 12 and under. INSTITUTE — Coast to Coast Baseball will host a hitting camp on Wednesday, Aug. 6, at 2 p.m. at West Virginia State University. In addition, tryouts will also be held at 10 a.m. for anyone who would like to represent the United States in competition in Puerto Rico or work with college and pro scouts in Florida. PRINCETON — The Princeton Rays will be conducting its 13th annual “Fan’s Bus Trip” on Saturday, Aug. 9 and are offering their fans the opportunity to see the P-Rays take on the Braves in a 7 p.m. game in Danville Va. The bus will depart Hunnicutt Field at 2:30 p.m. and return after the game ends. There is a set cost that includes transportation fees and game ticket. BLUEFIELD — A “Big Blue Reunion” of Bluefield State athletes who played for the Blues from 1968-80 will be held at the Bluefield City Auditorium on Aug. 16 at noon. HONAKER, Va. — The Honaker High school football team will have a VHSL parents’ safety meeting on Tuesday, July 22, at the field house at 7 p.m. All parents of players, grades 8-12, need to attend. All varsity and JV players will pick up their equipment at the same time. Practice starts on July 28, with the eighth grade team beginning on Aug. 1. Physicals must be completed before being allowed to practice.
