Morrison’s three hits, two runs batted in lead Rays past Braves

Staff report
Bluefield Daily Telegraph

DANVILLE, Va. — Ty Morrison drove in Kyle Spraker with a two-out single in the top of the ninth inning, leading Princeton to a 3-2 Appalachian League win over the Danville Braves in front of 2,418 fans at Dan Daniel Memorial Park.

Jairo De La Rosa allowed the tying run to score in the bottom of the eighth, but wound up with the win. James Hill earned the save, retiring the side in order in the ninth.

Morrison, who moved to the lead off spot for the Rays, had three hits and drove in two runs. Julio Cedeno added two hits for Princeton. Jason Patton had a triple for the Rays, which finished with nine hits.

Danville took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when South African Riian Spanjer-Furstenberg homered off Princeton starter Jason McEachern.

Princeton scored twice in the seventh. Tomas Francisco and Seth Henry singled, and Morrison followed with a hit to tie the score. Henry scored on a ground ball force play.

The Braves tied it in the eighth when Travis Adair doubled and scored on a single from Cory Harrilchak.

Spraker drew a one-out walk in the ninth, moved to second when Henry also walked. That was followed by the Morrison line drive single to center field off losing pitcher Thomas Berryhill.

Spanjer-Furstenberg and Jace Whitmer led the Braves with two hits apiece.
