ATHENS — The bats were at work on Saturday, as Concord swept a WVIAC doubleheader from Charleston, defeating the Golden Eagles 20-6 and 8-3 at Anderson Field.
Concord (16-6, 3-1), which won three out of four games in a key Southern Division series, collected five home run in the contests to spank Charleston (7-10, 1-3).
In the nightcap, Concord collected 21 hits and scored at least two runs in each of the six innings, including a high of seventh in the sixth.
Greyson Schram, Donovan Huffer and Brooks Cullen all homered for the Mountain Lions. Huffer led the Lions with four runs batted in, while Cullen and Schram had three RBIs apiece. Cullen also scored four runs, while Huffer and Tim Merolillo crossed the plate three times each.
Matt Kuntz added four hits for Concord, making the Lions’ lone senior 10-for-10 in three games, counting the doubleheader split on Friday.
Huffer pitched 6 1/3 innings to get the win, while Cullen finished. Tyler Boshart and Andy Armstrong homered for the Golden Eagles.
Concord started to swing hot bats in the opener, compiling 10 hits and two roundtrippers, one apiece from Schram and Merolillo. Schram had three hits — including a triple — and three RBIs, while Merolillo and Huffer had two hits each.
Trey Smith pitched a complete game, scattering eight hits to earn the win. Jim Daily led Charleston with three hits.
Concord, which played errorless ball in the two games, will play a single game at Bluefield State on Monday at 4 p.m.
