Police investigate rash of vehicle, home thefts in Mercer subdivision

BLUEFIELD —  Deputies with the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office are investigating another rash of vehicle and house thefts in the Quail Valley subdivision.

Multiple homes and vehicles have been hit in the past two days, and one home was burglarized while the occupants were present and sleeping, according to sheriff’s office Senior Deputy D.A. Furches.

The latest round of breaking and enterings are being investigated by Deputy E.P. Parks and Deputy J.D. Eillison. Furches said the same subdivision had been hit by burglars a week earlier.

Furches said the burglars are taking anything they can. He said money, jewelry, loose items and electronics like iPods are being stolen from vehicles. The most recent thefts occurred on Wednesday and Thursday.

“They are taking anything they can,” Furches said. “They actually broke into a house on Partridge Drive at night while people were inside the house.”

Anyone with information concerning the thefts is asked to call the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office at 304-487-8364.
