Bluefield Fire Department responds to early morning fire

BLUEFIELD — Firefighters battled an early morning blaze Thursday in the city limits of Bluefield.

The fire was reported at 3 a.m. on 149 Thorn Street. The occupants of the house were able to safely exit the structure, Bluefield Fire Chief Jeff Warden said.

“It was an occupied structure, but the people exited the house and they were in the street when crews arrived on scene,” Warden said.

“The crews knocked the fire out rather quickly. It was contained to two rooms.”

Warden said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The structure is considered repairable and is not a complete loss.

The Bluefield Fire Department responded to the blaze with five men who were on duty, and an additional five firefighters who were off-duty.

Firefighters were on the scene of the blaze for approximately three hours.
