A surveillance video shot at a local home suggests that big cats could be prowling the forests of Mercer County.
A video, shot approximately 2:48 a.m. on Oct. 23, shows some roaming deer, but suddenly a long, feline form comes into view. Kevin Tickle, 42, believes a cougar could have walked near his East Roger Street home. The cat passes a bank and a tree near the home provides some size reference.
“It’s over four-feet tall. It’s a good sized bank,” he said today. “And the tree is about 25-feet tall. The tree and the bank are really big.”
Tickle estimated the cat was in the 50-pound range. He said he has been hearing screams for four or five years.
“We have heard some screaming in the woods. It sounds like a woman or child screaming bloody murder,” he said, adding that other members have heard the cries.
Animal remains have been found recently, too. Tickle said his daughter found what was left of a deer carcass Monday in her driveway. He estimated the deer had weighed approximately 30 pounds.
