McDowell man reported missing found dead at crash scene

WELCH — A man who was reported missing this week was found when a railroad conductor spotted his overturned vehicle off U.S. Route 52.

Michael “Joey” Marushia, 42, of Twin Branch was reported missing Wednesday to the West Virginia State Police, said Sheriff Martin West of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Department.

“He went off of (Route) 52 going out of Superior,” West said. “It was a single-vehicle rollover.”

The car, a 1993 Dodge Saturn, was spotted between 3 and 3:30 p.m. Thursday by a railroad conductor, West said. Deputies Ricky Jones and Cody Childress were dispatched to investigate.

“They found him deceased in the vehicle,” West said.

The case is still under investigation, but no foul play is suspected at this time, he said.
