McDowell County man charged with five counts of solicitation of a minor by a computer

WELCH — A McDowell County man has been charged with five counts of solicitation of a minor by computer.

According to Sheriff Martin B. West, the McDowell County Sheriff's Office received a complaint that led to an investigation in the Hensley community. As a result of the investigation, West said Scotty Eugene Hicks, 20, of Hensley, was arrested and charged with five counts of solicitation of a minor by a computer.

The man made contact with the juvenile through Facebook, according to Sgt. James Muncy, also of the sheriff’s office.

Hicks was arraigned before Magistrate Danny Mitchell, who set bond at $50,000.

West said additional charges may be pending in the  case.
