AFTERNOON UPDATE: Tazewell County food pantry ‘dangerously low’ on supplies

RICHLANDS, Va. — A Tazewell County food pantry is running “dangerously low” on canned food and other non-perishable items, officials said Monday.

The Good Samaritan Food Pantry, a non-profit organization based in Richlands, is experiencing its worst shortage ever, and if the trend continues, may be forced to cut back on distribution, according to assistant manager Dick Lee.

The food shortage was announced during last week’s meeting of the Richlands Ministerial Association. Ministerial officials hope area congregations, as well as students who are back in school, will assist with food drives. Donations also are being accepted for the purchase of food from local markets.
