Mercer County man sentenced to life in prison for 2012 Princeton slaying

PRINCETON — A Mercer County man was sentenced to life in prison with mercy Tuesday on a charge of first-degree murder in the July 2013 shooting death of a Princeton woman.

Steven Brandon MacDonald, 33, was sentenced by Circuit Court Judge Derek Swope to life with mercy, 10 years for robbery with a firearm enhancement, three to 15 years for attempted murder and one to three years for conspiracy.

According to Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ash, MacDonald would be eligible for parole in 24 years.

MacDonald , along with Latasha Kanode,  23,  are both charged in connection with the shooting death of Sherry Matthews, 44, of Thornton Avenue, near Princeton, on July 15, 2013. The state alleges the two went to the residence to rob the woman.

A second individual in the residence, Edward Lee Thomas, 41, of Princeton , also was shot, but survived.
