Snow returns, bringing slick conditions and some accidents

BLUEFIELD — Snow returned to parts of southern West Virginia and Southwest Virginia this morning and created slick conditions that caused several minor accidents.

A high of 30 degrees is expected today, according to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, Va. A wind chill advisory is in effect until noon in Tazewell, Bland, Giles and Wythe Counties in Virginia and Mercer and Monroe Counties in West Virginia.

Dispatchers at 911 centers in Mercer and Tazewell counties reported several minor accidents due to the snow. The amount of snow that fell this morning varies from area to area. Route 460 in Tazewell County was mostly clear until motorists approached Mercer County, a dispatcher with the Bluefield, Va. Police Department said. Dispatchers in Giles County, Va. and across the state line in Monroe County reported little snow.

The forecast for Friday calls for sunny skies and a high of 54 degrees, according to the weather service.
