GREEN VALLEY —
A construction worker was injured Sunday night when the back wall of an expansion project at the Conn Service Center on Mercer Mall Road, collapsed, causing the roof joists to fall in as well.
Paramedics with the Princeton Rescue Squad, firefighters with the Green Valley-Glenwood Volunteer Fire Department, and troopers with the Princeton Detachment of the West Virginia State Police responded to the scene of the collapse.
“We have one injured worker who does not appear to have life-threatening injuries,” Chief David Thompson of the Green Valley-Glenwood Volunteer Fire Department. “I think the Princeton Rescue Squad is transporting him to Bluefield Regional Medical Center because the trauma center is there.”
Thompson said there were no other injuries in the building collapse. “It could have been much worse if more of the workers had been in there when it collapsed,” Thompson said. Emergency responders received the call at about 8:20 p.m.
