GRUNDY, Va. — A Buchanan County man was pronounced dead at the scene of a single-vehicle wreck Saturday morning on Route 615, Hoot Owl Road, near the U.S. Route 460 road construction project site near Grundy.

Dustin J. Ratliff, 28, of Oakwood, Va., died as a result of injuries he received when the four-axle dump truck he was operating ran off the road to the right and overturned over the hill, according to Trooper C.J. Burkes of the Virginia State Police.

“He was operating a Kenworth truck owned by a private carrier who was a contractor on the project,” Burkes said. “He had just unloaded and was coming off the hill.”

Burkes said that the wreck occurred at about 9 a.m. “He was deceased at the scene,” Burkes said.

In addition to the state police, the Grundy Fire Department, Rescue 33 and the Prater Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the scene.
