Bluefield, Va., council now allows driving golf carts within town limits

BLUEFIELD, Va. — An ordinance restricting where people can drive golf carts in the town limits has been adopted by the Bluefield, Va., Town Council.

The golf cart ordinance will allow people to operate their golf cart on roads that are 25 mph or less, like in neighborhoods.

Mike Watson, town manger for Bluefield, said the town is in the process of ordering decals for golf carts.

This will allow people that have a golf cart to be able to drive it in designated areas and also so their owner can identify carts. .

The decals should be available around the first part of November, Watson said.

Some residents have expressed concerns in recent weeks about people driving golf carts on main roads and are worried about someone getting hurt, including young children driving golf carts.

“People will only be able to operate on certain roads, such as neighborhoods,” Watson said.

Even though they have not received any major complaints about golf carts being ridden through residential neighborhoods, Watson said town officials are trying to be proactive before something bad does happen.
