Two injured following three-vehicle crash in Mercer County

MATOAKA — Two people with minor injuries were transported to the hospital this afternoon after a crash involving three vehicles at the Route 19/10 intersection at Lake Shawnee.

Trooper W.H. File, of the West Virginia State Police Princeton Detachment, said the crash occurred when a vehicle on Route 10 going toward Matoaka slammed on its brakes causing a truck and a car behind it to collide.

The first vehicle left the scene. Assistant Chief John Summers of the Matoaka Volunteer Fire Department said the intersection is the scene of frequent crashes. He estimated there has been more than a dozen accidents at the intersection within the last month 12 months.
