Rockslide, boulder blocks lane of Route 52

BRAMWELL — Firefighters and West Virginia Department of Highways workers were on the scene Monday evening of a rockslide closing part of U.S. Route 52.

Mercer County 911 received a call at approximately 8:52 p.m. about a rockslide closing both lanes of Route 52 in the vicinity of Hunk Hollow Road near Bramwell, a dispatcher said.

One lane was opened at approximately 9:15 p.m. and traffic was allowed to pass. The Bramwell Volunteer Fire Department was on the scene, the dispatcher said.

Fire Chief Joe Belcher of the Bramwell Volunteer Fire Department said one large boulder was blocking a lane. Firefighters were clearing away small debris. State Department of Highways crews were on the way to the scene with heavy equipment, he added.

There was no estimate immediately available about when both lanes would be cleared.
