A satellite broadcaster is bringing 200 new jobs to Mercer County just in time for the holidays.
Aaron Johnson, a spokesperson with DISH network, said the company will be hiring 200 new customer service representatives for their customer care center on Coal Heritage Road/U.S. Route 52 in the Bluewell area.
“These are 200 new jobs coming into the area,” Johnson said. “Around this time of the year, a few things increase in demand. More people are watching TV and new shows are starting their seasons. During the holidays, more people buy TVs and make decisions about TV service. We are staffing up to meet the increase. We typically add jobs around this time.”
Though business tends to increase for the company around the holidays, Johnson said the positions are permanent jobs rather than temporary holiday employment.
“These are full-time permanent, not temporary for the holidays,” he said. “If people want to keep working beyond the holidays, they certainly can. This is not seasonal holiday work. This will all be at our customer service center, which is one of 11 customer service centers throughout the country. People in this service center manage calls from all over the country and help customers sign up, manage accounts and with any other issues.”
DISH will be hosting a job fair on Nov. 8 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the DISH Bluefield Customer Service Center off of Coal Heritage Road, but Johnson said people can also apply online before the job fair.
“People can apply online in advance and learn more about the call center and the jobs online,” Johnson said. “They can also come in person and apply during our job fair. We had the fair scheduled originally for Nov. 1, but we have postponed the job fair due to the storm.”
Johnson said those wishing to apply for a position can do so online at www.dish.com/bluefield to complete a pre-hire application or stop by to apply.
