Volunteers prepare for opening of the Holiday of Lights in city of Bluefield

BLUEFIELD — The city park in Bluefield will be glowing tomorrow evening as the Holiday of Lights kicks off its opening night.

A large crowd is expected to gather tonight as volunteers flip the switch to the largest light display in the area at 6 p.m.

“When I volunteered last year, we had about 265 vehicles non-stop before there was a break in the cars,” City Manager Jim Ferguson said.

It will be a wonderful event, it’s really amazing to see, Ferguson said.

The light display will contain around 600,000 lights and new displays this year, Dwight Godwin, parks and recreation director said.

Volunteers will be collecting a canned food donation and also handing out candy canes.

The Holiday of Lights will run from this evening through Dec. 31.

Hours of operation are Sunday through Thursday 6 to 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 6 to 10 p.m.
