Cooper named top educator during Tea for Teachers celebration

BLUEFIELD, Va. —  Educators from across the two Virginias were honored for their dedication to their work, devotion to their students and contributions to local schools Tuesday evening

The top honors for the night went to Tami Cooper of Glenwood Elementary, who received the 2013 Teacher of the Year Award. Cooper was overcome when her name was announced.

“I am truly, truly surprised and amazed,” Cooper said. “This makes me feel special and let’s me know I am appreciated by someone.”

The two winners of the 2013 Excellence in Education Award were Jabi Scarberry from Graham Intermediate School and Ashley Vaughn from Glenwood Elementary School. Honorable Mentions went to Gail Faw with Bluefield Intermediate and Tammy Williams with Graham Intermediate.

Several other educators from around the region were honored during the program at Fincastle on the Mountain as part of the 9th annual Tea for Teachers event, sponsored by the Bluefield Daily Telegraph and Cole Chevrolet.
