Dump truck overturned on Hinton Road

LERONA — Firefighters and state Department of Highways workers had to clean up spilled automotive fluids and gravel Wednesday after a dump truck overturned on Hinton Road.

The Athens Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched 11:39 a.m., said Capt. Sean Wyatt of the Princeton Fire Department. The Athens department was the lead agency at the scene; its members could not be reached for comment Wednesday afternoon.

The Pipestem Volunteer Fire Department, the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department, Athens Police Department, and Princeton Rescue Squad were also sent to the scene. Princeton’s hazmat team was also dispatched.

Wyatt said leaking diesel fuel, hydraulic fluid, rear end grease and motor oil were spilled, but firefighters managed to contain it. He estimated a total of 40 gallons of fluids had been spilled on the roadway.

A dispatcher with Mercer County 911 said one person was transported to a local hospital.
