Fire destroys Bluefield residence

BLUEFIELD — The West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s offce has been called to investigate a structure fire that destroyed a city residence and caused traffic that was leaving the Second Chance Rocks the Two Virginias concert to be detoured off of Cherry Street.

The fire was reported at 10:10 p.m., at 1121 Carolina Ave., according to Captain Stan McKenzie of the Bluefield Fire Department. “The fire was about 40 percent involved when we arrived on the scene,” McKenzie said. “All of the occupants were out of the structure, but the residence was a total loss.”

McKenzie said that one female was residing at the house. He did not speculate as to the cause of the fire, and said that the State Fire Marshal may be able to provide that information after his investigation.
