UPDATE: Man shot, killed at nightclub

Deputies arrest one

PRINCETON — A Mercer County man was arrested Sunday morning on a charge of fatally shooting another male subject in the parking lot of the Club Maximus in Princeton.

The man, Morrisettie Leggett of Bluefield, was arrested at his residence after detectives interviewed witnesses at the crime scene and developed a lead, according to Mercer County Sheriff D.B. “Don” Meadows.

According to Meadows, Deputies C.K. Lester and G.C. Paitsel responded to a report of a shooting at the nightclub on Courthouse Road at 3:30 a.m. Meadows said that the deputies found several people in the parking lot giving CPR to the victim. Emergency medical service personnel transported the victim, David Andrew  Bailey of Princeton, to a hospital, where he died, Meadows said.

Detective Corporal L.B. Murphy processed the crime scene and interviewed witnesses.

Based on the information Murphy developed, he identified a suspect, according to Meadows.

“After I interviewed the suspect, I placed him under arrest,” Murphy said. He did not release the name of the suspect or the victim.

Murphy said that he could not release any information about a motive in the case. “The victim was shot with a handgun and it was recovered,” Murphy said. He added that he had arrested the suspect at about 6 or 7 a.m. Sunday morning.

Neither Meadows nor Murphy released any names of the alleged shooter or the victim.

Murphy said that the suspect will likely appear before a circuit court judge today for a bond hearing.
