Multiple bear sightings reported in Bluefield, Va., residents advised to take precautions

BLUEFIELD, Va. —  Town officials are asking residents to take precautions and watch out for an uninvited visitor who has been causing some problems in Bluefield, Va.

Town Manager Mike Watson said a bear has been sighted several times throughout the town in the past few weeks. Watson said the animal has been spotted several times around the town hall building as well as in the Sedgewood neighborhood and around the Sedgewood Town Homes area. Watson said there are some precautions residents can take to discourage bears and other wildlife from creating havoc in their backyard.

“Leaving your trash out or in an unsecured can as well as leaving out dog or cat food can attract these animals,” he said. “We ask that you not feed the wild animals because it encourages them to come down. Feeding one animal might lead other animals to coming into the area.”

Residents can contact the Bluefield, Va. Town Hall at 276-332-4626 for more information or to report any bear sightings.
