A Bluefield man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with a shooting at a city apartment complex.
Trayvon Strange, 20, of Bluefield, allegedly shot Steven Rhodes, age unavailable, of Bluefield, on the evening of April 21 at the Lewis Street apartments. Rhodes, who was able to identify Strange after being shot in the back of the head behind the ear, has now passed away, according to Bluefield Police Chief Dennis Dillow.
The shooting stemmed from an earlier argument between the two men on the afternoon of April 21.
Strange fled the scene the night of the shooting but was arrested a couple hours later.
Dillow said Strange will now be charged with first-degree murder and is currently being held in the Southern Regional Jail in Beaver.
Strange was originally charged with malicious wounding in connection with the shooting. Rhodes was transported to Charleston Area Medical Center after the shooting.
