Trial set for 2 men charged with possessing child pornography

BLUEFIELD — Trial dates have been set for two Mercer County men who were named in separate indictments charging them with possession of pornographic materials involving children.

Charles Edward Lawrence, 50, of Princeton, and Joshua Dwayne Poff, 19, of Bluefield, had their initial appearance hearings earlier this week at U.S. District Court in Bluefield before U.S. Magistrate R. Clarke VanDervort, who scheduled both men for trial at 9:30 a.m. on July 1, in Bluefield before Senior U.S. Judge David A. Faber of the Southern District of West Virginia. Following the hearing, VanDervort released both men on $10,000 non-surety bonds.

The cases against both men were investigated by Detective Cpl. Steven A. Sommers of the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department and the West Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Lisa G. Johnston represented the government at the hearing and Assistant U.S. Public Defender David R. Bungard represented the defendants.
