Mercer runner up for Ceres school grant

GREEN VALLEY — Mercer County is a first runner up for a grant that would fund a new Ceres school.

The West Virginia School Building Authority awarded more than 42 million for construction projects in seven counties.

Mercer County was among 22 projects that submitted plans for a new school, according to school board president Greg Prudich.

If Wayne County’s contingency bond is not passed then Mercer County will receive $8 million, Prudich said.

“We will know in the next couple weeks whether or not the vote is approved, but Wayne County needs what they asked for and I don’t want to take that away from them,” Prudich said. “We will continue to apply for funding so we can get what we need. It took us a few years to get the new Oakvale School and also PikeView Middle School so it’s coming it just takes time.”
