Concord selects new president

ATHENS — The Concord University Board of Governors has selected Dr. Kendra Boggess as the university’s 12th president, contingent upon approval by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission, university officials announced late Tuesday evening.

The action was taken during the board’s meeting Tuesday on the Athens campus.

Boggess is currently serving as Concord’s interim president. She has served in that position since July 1, 2013, and she was one of three finalists for the presidency of Concord following a nationwide search.

The commission will act on the board’s recommendation during a meeting scheduled for April 25 at Fairmont State University. If approved by the commission, Boggess will officially become president of Concord University effective July 1.

“We were lucky to have three very highly qualified candidates,” David Barnette, chair of the Presidential Search Committee, said. “We believe Kendra Boggess is going to be a great leader. We believe we’ve made the best choice going forward and looking toward the future.”

“I’m honored to have been selected and look forward to working with all of my colleagues in moving the institution forward and achieving the University’s mission and goals,” Dr. Boggess said.

Boggess brings nearly three decades of serving Concord in academics and administration to the presidency, university officials said. Throughout her career, she has served on numerous national, state, institutional and divisional committees and has been recognized for her leadership.
