Community leaders and medical personnel met this morning to dedicate Bluefield Regional Medical Center’s new critical care unit and honor the doctor to whom it was named.
The new critical care unit features 17 individual patient rooms, more space and up-to-date equipment, Bill Hawley, CEO of BRMC said.
After a ribbon cutting ceremony, the new unit was dedicated in honor of Dr. J. Brookins Taylor, also known throughout the community as “Doc T.” In 1960, he started a private practice in internal medicine that continued until 2009, said Ron Satterfield, BRMC board chairman.
In addition to a plaque honoring his accomplishments, Dr. Taylor was presented a birthday cake marking his 87th birthday on Monday.
