Appalachian Power has announced a planned power outage today from 5 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. in order to safely replace electrical equipment damaged by an automobile accident last week.
Bluefield Regional Medical Center's main hospital will be operating on generator power from 5:30 p.m. until repairs are complete. However, the emergency room will remain open and on normal power, according to a hospital press release.
As a result of the maintenance being performed, Cherry Street will be closed. Anyone needing to gain access to the hospital during this time is urged to use the Bryant Street (back) entrance. Only Emergency vehicles will be allowed to pass through the work area.
