Thousands without power, numerous trees down, as severe thunderstorm hits region

Area first responders are handling numerous calls about fallen trees and downed power lines as a storm comes through the Mercer County area.

More than 3,600 Mercer County customers are without power at this time, according to Appalachian Power officials. Another 941 outages have been reported in Tazewell County and another 304 are in Buchanan County. Giles County has 824 customers without power and another 154 have been found in Bland County.

Courthouse Road near Princeton has been blocked by a large tree, and a fallen tree that damaged power lines has been reported on Oakhurst Avenue in Bluefield. Downed trees have also been reported on East Cumberland Road in Bluefield.

High water has been reported on Stafford Drive in Princeton, according to Mercer County 911.
