Community Christmas Tree not yet halfway to reaching goal

BLUEFIELD — More than $250 in donations Monday pushed the Community Christmas Tree campaign closer to this year’s fund-raising goal of $30,000.

Sponsored by the Bluefield Daily Telegraph, the Community Christmas Tree — also known as the Little Jimmie campaign — provides toys, treats, a book, toboggan, a pair of gloves and other goodies to hundreds of local children in need each year.

This year, organizers expect to serve around 825 children at this year’s party on Saturday, Dec. 21, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the city auditorium on Stadium Drive in Bluefield.

More than 428 children have already been registered for the Little Jimmie party. A second round of sign-ups will be held Friday, from 3 to 6 p.m., and Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Bluefield City Auditorium. Children — newborns to age 12 — can be signed up. Parents or legal guardians are required to bring their child’s health insurance or WIC card, or the child’s birth certificate.

Monday’s donation’s of $270 brought this year’s campaign total to $13,345  — $16,655 short of this year’s campaign goal.

Those who would like to contribute to the Community Christmas Tree program can mail donations to: Bluefield Daily Telegraph, c/o Community Christmas Tree, P.O.
