Two caretakers have been arrested for allegedly beating an elderly man with pots and pans over a two-week period.
Patina Hypes, 49, of Princeton, and David Small, 35, of Princeton, were arrested Tuesday night after allegedly beating an 82-year-old man, Trooper First Class J.A. Cook of the West Virginia State Police Princeton Detachment, said.
“Hypes and Small took the man to Princeton Community Hospital for bleeding in his ear,” Cook said. “Doctors at the hospital called and reported it and believed it to be blunt force trauma. The man told me that they had been beating him for over two weeks with wooden spoons and metal pots and pans.”
Hypes has been the elderly man’s caretaker since December 2013, Cook said.
Hypes and Small were arraigned Wednesday morning before Mercer County Magistrate Susan Honaker and are being held in Southern Regional Jail in Beaver on $100,000 cash bonds.
Hypes and Small were charged with abuse and neglect to an incapacitated adult and conspiracy to commit bodily injury.
