Extended Tazewell County school days set to resume normal schedule

TAZEWELL, Va. — The last vestiges of winter’s snow have melted away for Tazewell County students.

Tazewell County school days that were extended to help make up for time lost to snow days will now be going back to a normal schedule.

The county school board has decided to return to a normal schedule for students after spring break on Tuesday, April 22, according to county school board chairman David Woodard.

The policy to extend the school day was set a few months ago to help make up time lost due to the extreme cold and snow.

“The normal schedule will resume when school starts back after spring break,” Woodard said. “Students will now get out of school at 3:05 p.m. instead of 3:45 p.m.”

The last day of school has also been set for May 29, Woodard said.

In other school board action, the first reading of a proposed change of the dress code for male teachers was also passed, Woodard said.

The new change would allow male teachers to not wear a tie if they choose to do so. Right now male teachers are required to wear a dress shirt and tie.
