Winter storm watch issued for Mercer County — heavy snow possible by week’s end

BLUEFIELD —  The National Weather Service in Blacksburg, Va., has issued a winter storm watch for Mercer County.

The watch is in effect from Thursday evening through Saturday afternoon. According to forecasters, significant upslope snowfall is possible along the higher western slopes beginning Thursday night through Saturday.

More than 5 inches of heavy snow is possible along with temperatures in the 20-degree range with wind chill factors in the single digits. Winds between 15 to 25 miles per hour and gusts up to 50 miles per hour are also possible.
