PRINCETON — Helping keep current and potential marriages together was the goal Friday of a sold-out event hosted by an actor known for his roles in movies and television.

Television and film actor Kirk Cameron spoke before hundreds of area residents at the Princeton Church of God for the “Love Worth Fighting For” event designed to help people struggling to keep their marriages alive. The event, also featuring musician Warren Barfield, was sponsored by Feed Your Faith at the Princeton Church of God.

“During these ‘Love Worth Fighting For’ events, we focus on all areas of personal and spiritual relationships and truly seek to help people in all stages of life; from teenagers and single adults to newly married couples and longtime spouses,” Cameron said in a press release. Cameron is known for his roles in movies such as “Monumental: In Search of America’s National Treasure and the 2008 movie “Fireproof.”

“It’s a Christian event. It’s helping couples to have a strong marriage,” said Jessica Basham of strongcommunities.org, which organized the event.

Mark Sullivan of the Consumed Agency in Atlanta, Ga., stated the conference is designed to equip people for biblically based and stronger marriages.

“It’s for new marriages, marriages for 25 years, struggling marriages, strong marriages. We actually have several single people who aren’t married yet show up each night and learn the ropes of marriage,” Sullivan said. “We’ll have a lot of spouses show up without their other half trying to mend their relationships. We pretty much see everything from one end to the other.”

The same program will be presented today in Wise, Va., Basham said. Tickets are available by going to feedyourfaith.org.
