A structure possibly containing ammo was destroyed by fire in Mercer County this afternoon. The blaze also sparked a brush fire that briefly threatened other homes in the Green Valley area.

The structure — and an adjoining outbuilding area — at the intersection of Ceres Road and Voolaboo Mount Lane in Green Valley — was destroyed by fire.

Nelson Short, chief of the East River Volunteer Fire Department, said the blaze sparked a brush fire that also threatened several other homes in the area. However, as of 3:10 p.m., firefighters had the brush fire under control — building a fire line around the blaze.

There are no initial reports of injuries at this time. The structure is fully involved, and ammunition is believed to have exploded at the site of the blaze, according to a Daily Telegrapher reporter on scene.
