Drug sweep nets 12

WELCH — The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the Southern Regional Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force conducted a drug sweep of the Big Creek Area (War) on Friday that resulted in the arrests of 12 individuals, according to Sgt. James C. Muncy Jr., of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office. He said that the arrests came as a result of an extensive investigation over the past several months.

Of the 12 individuals who were arrested on a variety of drug charges, only two were able to make bail. In addition to the 12 who were arrested, there are 9 additional individuals who are named in warrants, but were not taken into custody Friday.

All 12 of the suspects arrested Friday appeared before McDowell County Magistrate Steve Cox. Danny Ray Click, 55, of War, was charged with delivery of a controlled substance. Cox set bond at $25,000, and Click was remanded to custody. Robert Halsey Crockett, 36, of War was charged with delivery of a controlled substance. Cox set bond at $25,000 and Crockett was remanded.

Gary Gilbert, 33, from War, was charged with 3 counts of delivery of a controlled substance. Cox set bond at $70,000 and Gilbert was remanded. Brandon Shane Perkins, 23, from War was charged with 2 counts of delivery of a controlled substance. Cox set bond at $50,000 and Perkins was remanded.

Jackie Ray Horn, 60, of War, was charged with 2 counts of delivery of a controlled substance. Cox set his bond at $30,000 and he was remanded. Shante Marie Pendry, 22, of War was charged with two counts of delivery of a controlled substance. Cox set bond at $30,000 and she was remanded.

Mable Gail Johnson, 46, of War, was charged with 2 counts of delivery of a controlled substance. Cox set bond at $35,000, and she was released on bond. Jessie Ray Horne, 34, of War was charged with delivery of a controlled substance. Cox set bond at $25,000, and he was remanded.

John Lemon Kestner, 41, of War, was charged with 3 counts of delivery of a controlled substance. Cox set bond at $45,000, and Kestner was remanded. Stephanie Leigh Christian, 43, of War, was charged with 3 counts of delivery of a controlled substance. Cox set her bond at $45,000 and she was released on bond.

Chris Joseph Gilbert, 26, of War, was charged with 2 counts of delivery of a controlled substance. Cox set bond at $30,000, and Gilbert was remanded. Jeff Mitchell, 45, of War was charged with delivery of a controlled substance. Cox set bond at $15,000, and he was remanded to custody.

Muncy said that nine other suspects remain at large. “If you know their whereabouts, please notify the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office,” he said.

The suspects at large include Tina Pendry, from War, Deloris Kestner from Bishop, Adam Price from War, Kanekas Boyd Black from War, Malinda Mullins, Tommy Frazier, Abraham Adams, Roger Sloan and Mark Spears.

All nine suspects are wanted on drug charges.
