PRINCETON — A previously convicted sex offender was arrested Wednesday after it was learned he was using an email account he did not report to authorities.

Michael Ray Williams II, 30, of Bluefield, was arrested on second offense failure to register, Cpl. J.C. Long, with the Princeton detachment of the West Virginia State Police, said.

“He came in to update employment and address issues, and an email address was discovered that he never reported,” Long said.

This is the fourth time Williams has been arrested on failure to register charges, Long said. In a previous incident, Williams left his employment and joined a carnival without notifying authorities, Long said. In that case, he was traced to North Carolina where he was arrested.

Williams was convicted of his original offense, attempt to commit a felony — second degree sexual assault, in 2005. The victim was a female acquaintance age 13-17.

Williams was arraigned Wednesday afternoon before Mercer County Magistrate Mike Flanigan. Bond was set at $20,000 cash surety. He is currently incarcerated at Southern Regional Jail in Beaver.
