Goose with arrow through leg spotted in Bluefield, Va.

BLUEFIELD, Va. — A Canada goose with an arrow through its leg that has taken up residence near the Mayflower restaurant has spawned concerns from local citizens.

Officials with Tazewell County 911 said they received a call regarding the goose on Friday and have referred the incident to the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries as the goose is a wild animal.

Todd Miller with the Bluefield, Va. Water Treatment Plant said he and other employees have been seeing the goose for months, but the goose doesn’t seem to be inhibited by the arrow.

“The other employees and I have seen it several times,” Miller said. “It sometimes walks up from the pond all the way to the road. It doesn’t seem to be sick or in distress. He’s just as healthy as the rest of them.”

The Bluefield Daily Telegraph recently posted a story regarding the removal of an arrow from a Canada goose in Bay City, Mich., but the two incidents are not related.

Anyone wishing to report injured or distressed wildlife can call the local Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries office in Marion, Va. at 276-783-4860.
