PANTHER — An investigation was underway Monday into the death of an infant that was reported in a McDowell County community.

The call was received at approximately 2:30 a.m. Monday from a home in Isaban near Panther, according to Trooper B.D. Gillespie of the West Virginia State Police Welch detachment.

The investigating officer, Trooper C.A. Dunn, was not available for comment Monday evening.

Gillespie said the infant was approximately 4 months old. He did not know the infant’s gender. No arrests have been made.

“It’s still under investigation,” Gillespie said.
