BLUEFIELD — Probable cause has been found in the case of a Mercer County woman facing first-degree murder and other charges in the July shooting death of a Princeton woman.

Latasha Marie Kanode, 23, of Princeton appeared today before Magistrate Sandra Dorsey. At the conclusion of the hearing, Dorsey ruled there was probable cause and bound the case over to the Mercer County grand jury.

Kanode was arrested July 15 along with Steven McDonald, 32, of Bluefield. Both have been charged with the murder of Sherry Matthews, 44, of Princeton. Matthews was shot and killed at her apartment along Lilly Grove.

McDonald’s preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday before Magistrate Dorsey.

Both Kanode and McDonald are being held at the Southern Regional Jail in Beaver.
