Authorities report ‘no new developments’ in missing hunter search

CEDAR BLUFF, Va. — The Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office issued a media advisory this afternoon stating that Tazewell County, Va., emergency dispatch personnel “have been inundated with numerous calls” asking if Eric Smith has been found and asking further questions “regarding a myriad of rumors.”

Major Harold Heatley of the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office urged the media to help spread the message “that there are no new developments” in the case and to add “no arrests have been made.” He added that people should call only if they have new information about Smith’s whereabouts, but to “stop calling our dispatch center as every time they call, they tie up precious resources that may be needed elsewhere.”

The Cedar Bluff Police Department is in charge of the incident and will provide all updates, according to Heatley’s email message.
