MAYBEURY — A person burned during a house fire in McDowell County has been transported to Bluefield Regional Medical Center.

The Northfork Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire Monday on Simmons Mountain Road in McDowell County. One person was taken to BRMC after suffering second- and third-degree burns on the face, hands and airway, according to firefighters on the scene. Two other people were at the home.

“The house was fully engulfed when we arrived on the scene,” said firefighter Ron Serino, safety officer and incident commander for the Northfork Volunteer Fire Department.

The Bramwell Volunteer Fire Department also assisted in the fire.

“The Bramwell Fire Department did an excellent job helping us get this thing put out,” Serino said.

Serino says, as of right now it is undetermined how the fire started.

American Electric Power was contacted after two power poles and two lines started to burn.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office has been contacted and will investigate the fire.

The state Department of Forestry was also on scene.
