One person transported to local hospital after home burns in McDowell County

MAYBEURY — A person burned during a house fire in McDowell County has been transported to Bluefield Regional Medical Center.

The Northfork and Bramwell Volunteer Fire Departments were dispatched to a structure fire today on Simmons Mountain Road in McDowell County. One person was taken to BRMC after suffering second-and third-degree burns on the face, hands and airway, according to firefighters on the scene. Two other people were at the home.

“The house was fully engulfed when we arrived on the scene,” said firefighter Ron Serino, safety officer and incident commander for the Northfork Volunteer Fire Department.

Serino said the cause of the fire is undetermined, and is being investigated by the state fire marshals office. American Electric Power was contacted after two power poles and two lines started to burn.
