Suspect in Facebook feud case indicted

PRINCETON — A Mercer County woman who was arrested in early July after a Facebook argument led to a car chase involving pepper spray has been indicted by the Mercer County Grand Jury.

Dovie Small, 46, of Princeton was arrested July 9 following a car chase that began in Princeton and continued on U.S. Route 460 before ending near Cumberland Road in Bluefield.

Mercer County 911 was alerted that day about two Dodge Hemi Chargers, one silver and the other yellow, trying to run each other off the road. The chase began on Courthouse Road near Princeton after the silver Charger allegedly swerved into the path of the yellow Charger driven by Small, investigators said at the time of her arrest.

Two female juveniles, Small’s 16-year-old daughter and the daughter’s friend, were in the car with her, Patrolman K.L. Adams said of the Bluefield Police Department said. Both girls were hanging out of the car’s windows and screaming during the chase, he said.

Bluefield Police and the West Virginia State Police stopped both cars near the intersection of Route 460 and Cumberland Road. No charges were filed against the silver Charger’s driver or her passenger. Adams said there was no evidence supporting the report of that car swerving into Small’s lane.

When the cars reached Bluefield, pepper spray was squirted from the silver Charger, and then pepper spray came from Small’s vehicle, Adams said.

After Small was arraigned at the Mercer County Magistrate offices in Bluefield, Adams said that arguments on Facebook led to the chase; he did not classify the chase as a road rage incident.

Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ash said Tuesday that Small was indicted on a charge of child neglect creating a substantial risk of serious bodily injury or death. A conviction carries a penalty of one to five years imprisonment. She is currently free on bond.
